I've been exceedingly interested in surrealism as the semester wraps up. I've just recently stumbled upon Logan Zillmer's 365 project on Flickr. Many of the photos are inspiring and well done. You can see his development over the year, which is one of the things I really love about 365 projects. I've never had the commitment to do it myself unfortunately. Back to Logan, not all of the pictures are photoshop centric and the ones that are, on average, done tastefully. Link to his 365 album on Flickr.

Mick Rock: Rock's Photographer
I write this portion of the post, having only looked at the work posted on Mick Rock's website and obtaining no other knowledge than that. For the most part, I'm rather unimpressed by the photos. Though a handful did stand out to me, I'll show those later. Mr. Rock's overall work, in my opinion, relies more on who's in the photo than on the photo itself. Then again, I'm just starting out again. Let's see what the internet has to say.
So, after some fine researching it seems I was sort of correct. While Mr. Rock did have talent to his craft, he is mostly famous for shooting album covers and images of rock bands in the seventies. He is accredited many iconic shots from the time. In a time when celebrities couldn't post photos to Facebook and Instagram, I can understand his fame. This was the only glimpse into the lives of these rock stars. Without the internet having been so popularized, the spread of images like Mick Rock's have much more meaning. Even under this new perspective, I'm not about to consider myself a fan of Mick Rock's work. While I respect the role he played in his time, the artistic value is less than the historic value. He still continues his work today, photographing popular artists.
Next day addition: After thinking this over more, I want to revisit Mick Rock later in the semester, once I have some more technical knowledge.
